Kodak Pixels

Kodak Pixels is a series of digital illustrations based on the artist’s photographic family archive. The photographs depicted show the family’s life from the mid-1990s to the early 2000s, which marked the family’s eventual migration to Chicago from Michoacan, Mx.

Illustrating these photographs allows for a therapeutic dissection of the past. It offers a new perspective on the settling family’s documented celebrations and everyday life.

The aspect ratio of Kodak’s 35mm film influenced the scale for the prints of these illustrations. The digital image and archival print strip the photographic source from its vibrant color to mimic the visual aesthetic and techniques used in charcoal drawing.
